Development of the European Academic Compound Library (EACL)

Our collaboration with EU-OPENSCREEN exemplifies a pivotal step forward in the pursuit of novel drug discovery. EU-OPENSCREEN enables a broad investigation of our substance archive established in 2016 ("Central Sample Bank for Research") across a variety of cellular target structures and provides our collaborating chemists with high-quality information about the pharmaceutical potential of the compounds deposited.

By contributing our unique libraries of synthesized molecules [to EU-OPENSCREEN], we aim to foster partnerships that can lead to groundbreaking discoveries. This collaboration offers an excellent opportunity to explore the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of our compounds, paving the way for the development of innovative treatments that benefit global healthcare.

A series of quinolones with activity against MRSA has been designed and synthesized by our team in our labs. By participating [in EU-OPENSCREEN’s compound sharing initiative], I hope to discover new biological activities for the submitted compounds.

The EU-OPENSCREEN initiative is to me a fantastic opportunity to add value to our compound collections, which would otherwise be forgot in a freezer and thrown out 10 years from now. We hope to discover novel applications for the molecules, publish the results and generate exciting research or commercialization opportunities.

EU-OPENSCREEN’s compound sharing initiative is a reasonable and highly economic way to increase the value of new chemical entities. Design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of hitherto undescribed substances is a costly endeavour for the tax payer and thus it is necessary to make these compounds available for other researchers.
