EU-OPENSCREEN recognised for benefits to Swedish researchers in national evaluation

EU-OPENSCREEN has been recognised as one of 24 international research infrastructures that demonstrate clear benefits and added value for Swedish researchers in an evaluation conducted by the Swedish Research Council on Sweden’s participation in international research infrastructures between 2020 and 2024.

The evaluation represents a rigorous and comprehensive assessment of how international research infrastructures contribute to national research communities. It examined factors such as scientific usage, research outputs, and long-term impact generated through participation in these infrastructures.

Commenting on the evaluation, EU-OPENSCREEN’s Swedish partner site CBCS at Karolinska Institutet (CBCS-KI) highlighted what this recognition means for the Swedish research community:

“As a Swedish partner site in EU-OPENSCREEN, CBCS-KI is very pleased to see the Swedish Research Council’s evaluation highlighting the benefits of international research infrastructures for Swedish researchers. It is particularly encouraging that EU-OPENSCREEN is identified as providing clear added value to the Swedish academic community, even as a relatively new member.”

EU-OPENSCREEN operates through a distributed network of partner sites across Europe, bringing together complementary expertise, technologies, and compound collections to support research in chemical biology and early drug discovery. Within this framework, national partner sites play a central role in connecting local research communities to infrastructure services and capabilities. In Sweden, the Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS) at Karolinska Institutet (CBCS-KI) and Umeå University (CBCS-UmU) provide access to advanced screening technologies, scientific expertise, and collaborative research opportunities, enabling Swedish researchers to engage with EU-OPENSCREEN’s pan-European network.
